To run the IQ Test, the minimum hardware you will need is a 256-Color Macintosh (Mac II or better) and need to be running system 6.0.7 or later. You will also need at least 5mb of RAM.

"IQ Test 1.5" is a Macintosh application that will give you an IQ test, and will calculate your actual IQ within 5 points. The IQ Test tests your ability to reason and think logically compared to other people. A score between 90 and 110 represents an average IQ. Ages over 16 are calculated the same as an adult because statistics show that logical intelligence does not change much after that age. The test is weighted for age, so younger people answering the same number of correct answers will score higher than an older person.
There has been much debate over the "validity" of the IQ test. The conclusion is that it is a very good indication of logical thinking, that is, there is a high correlation between the ability to think logically and the results of an IQ test. Given the fact that there are many types of intelligences, the results of this test should not be taken too seriously.
The IQ Test is based on a written test created in the late 1970's. The written test has been administered to over 2 million people. The test results follow a classic statistical bell-curve pattern, where 68% of the people taking the test score within 15 IQ points of the normal IQ, which is defined as 100 points. The other 32% of the population fall above and below the +/- 15 point range. The highest and lowest (having 200 IQ and 0 IQ, respectively) represent .001% of the population. Out of 260 million people in the United States, only 2600 people have IQ's at these levels.
The IQ Test is only accurate between 80 and 160 IQ. IQ's lower and higher than this are not easily calculatable, and need several tests to compute correctly. Therefore, the minimum and maximum of the scores the test will give are 80 and 160+. There are agencies that will administer a full-blown IQ test under the supervision of a licensed psychologist for around $500. If you feel that you need a test for these levels, please refer to your yellow pages for further information.
The test is scored by calculating the number of correct answers corresponding to a built-in database. The database has a look-up table which indicates the IQ that corresponds to the number of answers that were correct. The IQ scores are based on a statistical ratio for the number of people answering the correct number of questions, based on empirical evidence from a large statistical survey of the population.
The measured IQ of children (under 16) is equal to the mental age divided by the actual (chronological) age. For example, if a child of eight obtains a score expected of a ten-year old, he or she will have a measured IQ of 125. The is calculated the following way:

Chronological Age
This method of calculating IQ does not apply to adults, because beyond the age of 16 there is little or no improvement in logical thinking development. Adults have to be judged on an IQ test in which the average score is 100. The results are graded above and below this norm according to known test scores.
Based on the Catell scale of intelligence, the population can be split into three main groups: 50 percent would have an IQ between 90 and 110. 25 per cent would be above 110 and 25 percent would be below 90. On the Catell scale, the qualifying level for the Mensa Society is 148, which put the applicant in the top 2 percent of the population. A level over 155 is considered "genius".
The IQ Test only covers logical intelligence. There are other intelligences that the test does not cover, like musical talent, manual dexterity, or a variety of other abilities. Keep in mind that it only tests logical thinking, which is important to success in life.
The correct answers for the test can be found in the electronic document "IQ Test Answers". You will need to send in your shareware payment to access this document. After receiving your payment, we will send you a password that will let you decompress the document to a format you can view. You may view the answers, or print them. Please do not look at this document until you have taken the test or the results of the test will be incorrect. The document will give the correct answers and the reasons why the answers are correct.
